A Snow Tease

chicken chilliAs I sat in my makeshift office this morning, looking out of the bedroom window I saw it rolling in, a snow storm. I don’t much mind snowstorms when I am safe and sound inside my home with my family and a refrigerator full of groceries and so as the day dragged on, as overcast days tend to do, I watched it roll on by. We only ended up with a few flurries but I deemed it cold enough to break out my famous chicken chili…only this time it was turkey that was on sale rather than chicken so it turned in to chicken chili. I have to say that while both ground turkey and ground chicken are both rather subtle in taste they make an amazing difference when you mix them in to  chili. As a note, if you ever decide to make my chili do it with ground chicken and not ground turkey and don’t forget to leave the canned corn in it’s juice!

Early this afternoon I braved the walk to the mailbox, a whole three minute walk up the complex which consisted of weaving through the groundskeepers for the complex as they hurried about trying to finish up before the snow really set in. Little did they know that the snow would only set in for a good fifteen minutes before becoming rain and then tapering off. I have to admit that while I am not big on being out in the snow there is something faintly romantic to being snowed in every once in a while and I was slightly disappointed to see it go. There is something warm and cozy about home cooking and a shared sense of being stranded that sparks good conversation. Anyway, back to the mailbox, today’s walk yielded nothing but an offer for three free months of HBO, nice, but not exactly what I had wanted to find. Still, I can’t complain because it leaves me hope that I’m still in the running for the University of Arizona, the University of Nevada in Reno, the University of Illinois in Chicago and the University of Virginia. Fingers crossed!
