An Update On Jetster

ester cYou may recall me telling you about Jet’s hip dysplasia or about the run in he had at the dog park during our first weeks down here in Florida that left him temporarily lame in his back left leg. Well I took it upon myself to do some research. We usually use Aduquan Canine shots to maintain his level of comfort in his back legs but since are not at home with our vet we are trying supplementation instead. Currently Jet is taking Dasuquin a joint supplement with glucosamine and MSM which seems to be helping but he was still stiff in his back legs and maintaining his bunny hop when he gets tired so I went about the world of hunting dogs to see what I could find. As it turns out even dogs with hip dysplasia can be amazing hunting dogs and one of the biggest tricks used by their community is the use of Ester-C. Dosing dogs with 2,000mg of Ester-C seems to be an effective way to assist dogs with dysplasia in interacting with less pain from their hips. While there is currently one human study out that explains that excess vitamin C could, in fact, worsen arthritis over time it is just one study and has not shown to have the same effects on our canine friends. So currently Jet is also taking 1,000mg Ester-C powder on his breakfast and 1,000mg Ester-C powder on his dinner. He seems to be taking it well and the improvement (which I was told would be seen in 4 days) is already noticeable. He no longer bunny hops the stairs and seems to have quite a bit more energy that he did before. I am keeping an eye out for any side effects ( the only known at this time is diarrhea), but so far *fingers crossed* so good.
