Back in Business aka Viniyoga Fun

viniyogaTo the left you will see my savior, and no I was not paid or compensated in anyway to say that. Viniyogatherapy for the low back, sacrum and hips is something which in my opinion should be donned in every physicians and chiropractors office worldwide. Did you know that an estimated 90% of people experience back pain in their lives? Most of which results from our increasingly sedentary lifestyle, mine, however was not so simple.

My previous chiropractor will tell you that he believes a malformation in my cervical vertebrae from falling out of an RV window as a toddler (hey, I never said I wasn’t clumsy) is the root of my problem. I will tell you that I stared and stared at that x-ray and didn’t see a darn thing – then again I wasn’t exactly sure what I was looking for. I can also tell you that throughout most of my life I lived without back pain and it wasn’t until 2001 that things started going south. To make a very long story short, I experienced one car accident (thankfully it was only my back which got hurt), one stint of PUSHING cars in three and a half feet of snow (think I’m kidding? look up the Evansville Indiana blizzard which left people *cough*me*cough* stranded for TWO days on the highway), and one torn latissimus dorsi (I will forever hate the elliptical with moving arms). A culmination of all of the above left me in sheer agony, something which over a year of visiting the chiropractor, two visits to urgent care, hundreds of hours of heating pad application, hundreds of boxes of Salon Pas patches, one inversion table, one waist brace, two bottles of muscle relaxers and one stint of steroids could not fix.

There was a point when I seriously believed that my life was meant to be spent in agony, and then after digging around online I found something that wasn’t widely talked about but turned out to be my saviour – yoga. I admit to trying out a few different yoga DVD’s but I found that a lot of them were just too much. I hadn’t ever tried yoga and the different stretches and positions left me worn out and hurting far too much in the beginning and so I kept on searching until I found Viniyogatherapy for the low back, sacrum and hips by Gary Kraftsow. I expected this DVD to be the same as the others but to my surprise it wasn’t, it took things slowly and focused on my problem areas without straining too much. Eventually I got to where I knew the DVD by heart so I could make my yoga a little more relaxing by listening to music or even watching my favorite TV show while I practiced at least once a day to start with.

The difference between this DVD and others is that besides going at a reasonable pace and having a significant lack of those insanely postured yoga moves, this DVD is simple and acknowledges that you have an existing lower back condition and caters to it. It has been over a year since I began using the Viniyogatherapy for the low back, sacrum and hips DVD and now I only use it twice a week to make sure that things are tuned up and stretched out but I can tell you that even if I skip one of those days my back screams for me to get back on schedule. Out of the – it must be thousands by now – thousands of dollars I spent in a quest to heal my back problems the $17 I spent on this DVD was by far the most amazing.

If you have lower back problems and are cleared by your doctor to exercise I highly recommend giving this DVD a try, additionally (again, if you are cleared by your doctor) add some LIGHT weight training in to your exercise routine to strengthen those abs and your back muscles and you will find significant improvements that you never thought possible – seriously, I’m living proof.

I am obligated to tell you that if you purchase this DVD through my link I will receive a small percentage of the sale price; however, this in NO WAY reflected in my recommendation of the product itself.

I hope it helps him as much as it has me, the key is sticking with it but he should notice a real difference after doing it for a couple of weeks!
