Money, Money, Money

moneyI was always told that when it comes to grad school if you really want it you won’t let financial means or lack of financial means in particular prevent you. When I decided to go to grad school I had no idea where the money would come from, I have enough saved for application completion and all the fee’s that come with it but I still have no idea where the money will come from other than a stipend and fee waiver. When it comes to visiting campuses…yup no idea but I don’t want to let that stop me. I want to dive in to this and make it happen but as the time gets closer I am getting more and more terrified that I will get through to the final cut and be unable to actually make that cut due to lack of finances. TERRIFIED.

I was a little more secure until I lost my part time job a few months ago, I was a freelance writer and then the clients started to cut corners and the first corner they cut was me…I lost $672 a month with the snap of my fingers and now the savings account is dwindling with each step towards grad school that I make only now, there’s nothing replenishing it…did I tell you that I’m terrified? Because I am.

Are you applying for financial aid? I paid for law school with a combination of a partial scholarship & student loans…and hush money from all of those DC politicians I interned for…okay, JUST KIDDING! čśë Trying to give you a little comic relief with that last one…but seriously, what about financial aid?

I’m going to fill in all information they give me on financial aid including the FAFSA form, I’m not sure what I’m eligible for and what I’m not but at this point I’m ready to do it all one school at a time. In the doctoral programs a lot of them state that when you apply they fit you up with a research or teaching position with your application and will let you know when they accept/deny you what you are eligible for. For most if not all of the programs I am applying to they state that your full graduate study will be funded which is great but I’m just waiting to be the exception to the rule LOL.

Oh, I also worked as a research assistant for several of my professors…but this option usually isn’t available until you have completed at least a semester of classes…
