Oh Hell, I Give Up

RaleighDo you remember how insanely excited I was about *the* perfect apartment that we found? An apartment that offered us so much more than where we live now and yet still came in under the rent we’re paying? We pay $1,000 even where we are now and on April 6th the apartment we fell in love with was $990. We knew we had some scrambling to do to get funds together for the move so we asked the agent on duty what exactly would the expected rent increase be over the summer, the peak “move-in” time. She pulled out last years figures and the difference was a maximum of $60. I commented on how I’d expected it to be so much more and she laughed and told me no, it wasn’t. Fast forward to the heartbreaking disappointment of finding out that this complex (I will not give them any publicity so I will not share their name) has now increased the rent on our ideal apartment to…wait for it…$1180. There is no way in hell we can afford that sort of increase and so, once again, the disappointment sets in and we are forced to start looking elsewhere. I am particularly devastated by the loss of this place because it was the first time I would be afforded a cute little office, somewhere I REALLY wanted to work. Usually I am put in a shared office or a nook that is open to the living room or an empty bedroom upstairs secluded from the household but this time I was really going to get my own cute little room that I could make my own. Well now because of the greed of a big apartment complex we can no longer entertain the idea of moving to our ideal apartment. It’s a shame really because that particular apartment has been vacant for a month now. So I suppose we go on with the search now but I am just gobsmacked at the greed of corporate America.
