Ten Things You Don’t Know About Me

us1. Buzz and I had the police called on us twice, the fire brigade called on us three times and a tow truck called to tow a friends car within the first month of moving in to our current home, apparently our retired neighbours didn’t approve of interracial relationships.

2. I am the middle child of four – yes, I said middle. My younger brothers are twins and live across the country in college dorms. My sister left to live back in Europe six years ago, we haven’t seen her since.

rumcake3. I love to bake. Pictured to the left is one of my favorite baking projects – rum cake, it’ll leave you a bit tipsy but you’ll come back for more.

4. I read your body and your tone first, what you say second so if I give you a delayed response to a question now you know why.

5. I often seem to ‘trip over myself’ when I talk due to the fact that I think in an English accent but most times speak with an American accent.

cake16. For my 28th birthday Buzz took my best friend and I to the Sky Lofts in the MGM Grand casino in Las Vegas. I have never been lavished with such luxury in my life and while it made me uncomfortable it was truly a once in a lifetime experience.

7. I have had less than one figure and more than six figures in my bank account at different points in my life – I was comfortable with neither.

hat8. I made the conscious decision to be an optimist after my grandfather, the man to whom I was closest in my life, passed away. Being unafraid to take a chance at looking silly for a laugh changes everything.

9.  I pick up languages easily and quickly, learning French as a young child and German and continued French as a middle schooler. I lost German after not using it for years but after ten years of not using French I still understand and speak it moderately well.

10. I am a shopaholic, chocoholic, Italian food loving, seafood hating, ocean fearing, peace keeping, fresh fruit gorging, Ben Folds listening, Disney park visiting, pack rat.

      Thanks Sarah!
      1. Yes, it turns out a few of my neighbors are quite bigoted but they seem to have settled down since they realized that we’re not going anywhere…at least not until next year!
      2. I haven’t seen my sister in about six years (haven’t spoken French in 10 😀 ) she lives in Prague and we are both too broke to visit each other but we webcam chat a couple of times a year – we were never particularly close though and the knowledge that each other is out there somewhere is enough to keep us both content.
      3. The cake? I will post the recipe tomorrow because it’s too amazing not to share!

What a great idea. I love the post. I will have to think about what mine would say and I will write up myself on my blog. Stay tuned. http://one2try.blogspot.com/

Oh no! do you have the same neighbors? I sometimes deal with issues with other people not liking our interracial relationship too. It gets annoying but otherwise I don’t think about it.

I’m sorry that happened to you.

You have really good baking skills girl. And yes I love me some rum cake. I haven’t had any in years! Another reason I miss my country.

If you ever read where I say I watched people? Yes that’s what I do is your #4

#6 is just so sweet. Such an experience and alwas a memory hold dear.

I love how your grandfather thinks.
    I would definitely emulate.

I love languages and always wanted to be fluent in four or more. Bah I’m still learning slowly. I need an immersion.

I am teaching my kids Spanish now though and want them to be immersed. We’ll see.

    Thanks for sharing you.

We do still have the same neighbors (although one lady moved away) but they have learned to accept us and treat us fairly but it’s hard not to hold a grudge.

I’ll have to bake you a rum cake one of these days when life slows down 🙂
