That Doctor’s Appointment

Some women whisper about “that” doctors appointment but not me. Certainly I don’t particularly look forward to it but without fail every single year I show up at my OB/GYN’s (who incidentally looks like Kevin Costner) office and I go through the slight embarrassment of putting feet in stirrups. The thing is that for the amount of complaining I do about going, the whole process is over in minutes really and it makes me proud of myself to know that I have taken care of myself for another year. I don’t have insurance and my yearly OB/GYN appointment is the only doctor’s appointment I go to unless I feel like I am at death’s door at which point I head to a Minute Clinic or Urgent Care and in the case of the time my heart nearly exploded, the ER. I like to check in once a year with my doctor, it gives me peace of mind and it really isn’t as terrifying as many people would have you believe, at least not with my current doc, the one before that – the one who left the hospital after my endometriosis surgery without talking to me or my family, he was another matter completely.
