Vaccination Friday

shotMy poor little Jet has had a rough couple of days, although¬† I am fairly certain that it was rougher for me to watch and he wasn’t all that phased either way. Yesterday we dropped in to the vet for our Bordatella shot (the one that goes up the nose) and that went smoothly but he still hates it…then again who would like anything getting sprayed up their nose? Anyhow I talked to the vet tech about ordering our next bottle of Adequan – the injectable that we use to help Jet with his dysplasia and arthritis, she said our vet prefers not to call or fax prescriptions in to online pharmacies but will price match if I call in with the price offered online at these pharmacies. So I came home and utilizing my thrifty online couponing skills I found the Adequan for just over $80 for two bottles with the 20% coupon and free shipping. I called the vet and let them know and she said that they paid more for their Adequan so she was sure they couldn’t price match but would check. Sure enough no price matching can be done at that discount so they offered to write a prescription for me to mail in and fulfill my order at the online pharmacy. The vet tech advised me to do a little more research on the pharmacy I was going to use though to make sure that we would not only get good service but we would also get high quality drugs so I instructed them to have the vet write the script and meanwhile I would do some research on the company. Sure enough as soon as I googled the company name and the word “complaints” I found my answer in the multiple complaints against this company. So I researched a little more and found that 1800-petmeds would offer two vials of Adequan for $110 versus the $75 per vial we paid at our vets clinic and the vet tech said she was sure they could price match to that level so we will be picking that up on Monday instead! Anyhow that wasn’t the part of the story where Jet has had a rough time, I got sidetracked – BIG surprise there. Anyhow so today was his monthly shot day and I had to give him his Adequan shot. Buzz holds him still – which Buzz hates more than anyone, and I draw the meds and inject subcutaneously and I’m not particularly fond of it but it has to be done and if Jet’s mom won’t do it then who will? So I did his shot today and he jumped, and then I jumped and I didn’t think I’d be able to finish the shot today, I was afraid I’d hurt him and I couldn’t bring myself to do it. Then I realized that although I have a dog and not a child, I AM a mom and that this was something that had to be done, so I finished the shot. It may seem like a “lame” story to some of you out there but to me it was an accomplishment. I did something I was terrified to do because I had to.
