We go Up and Up!

upandupRemember the other day we were talking about going green? Well I fell off the wagon today. I particularly wanted to switch to Seventh Generation laundry detergent and become an all Seventh Generation family indulging in the complete green living experience. We began with the household cleaner I picked up on the 13th but today as I stood in the aisle of Target eyeing Seventh Generation’s laundry detergent and obsessing over the ever dwindling bank account, my eye was caught by something else: Up and Up.

While we were in Florida I noticed that my mom was using Up and Up detergent – this is Target’s brand which changed not to long ago to the new “Up and Up” name. The detergent smelled pleasant and most of all did not leave Buzz with his usual rash that he gets from brands other than Tide Free. I wasn’t sold on it while we were down there because I figured since Buzz did well with the Tide we wouldn’t switch – if it’s not broken, don’t fix it right? Well since my going green resolution I contemplated a switch to Seventh Generation but as I stood there in the aisle eying the Seventh Generation 64 load bottle for $14.99 I happened to turn around and see the Up and Up lavender laundry detergent, a 96 load bottle for $11.99. As desperately as I wanted to go all green my bank account was still spinning around my head and I decided that for now my finances would have to dictate our spending habits.

While it is important to me that we try our best to go green this year it is also important to me that we trim every last expense that we can to ensure that we make it through these insane economic times with a roof over our heads. So if you’re looking for a way to save a few extra bucks, check out the Up and Up laundry detergent at your local Target, you can’t beat 96 loads for $11.99.

It’s so difficult to be green when everything green costs more!! Make an electric hybrid that is AFFORDABLE and I’ll completely buy one! Make it more expensive to buy one-time use items and make my reuseables more affordable, and I’m there! Uggggh. I feel your pain with the finances and trying to be good.

It is difficult to go green but I figure any little thing I can do to make the step is a small change for the better and little by little I will be greener!
